How They Work - Reflex unit
Reflex disc diagram
Here's something bally never included in their manuals - the wiring diagram for the reflex unit.

When the reflex unit is fully reset, the wipers directly connect the green circuit to the purple one. Mixer #1 is bypassed, and the game is as liberal as possible. As credits are won, the reflex unit wipers rotate clockwise. Since the wipers are spanning six rivets, it will take a reasonably high payout to move them far enough so they are off the green wire. Note that unlike the rest of the stepper units in the game, the wipers do not move in one-rivet jumps, they move in much smaller increments. Much of the time a single wiper finger is bridging two adjacent contacts, which should never happen on the other steppers.
Anyway, hopefully you can see that when the last finger leaves the green wire, the wiper span will now be connecting all the blue wires. As the unit steps up further, the blue wires are disconnected one at a time until none are hooked up.

In the above picture, all three blue circuits are still connected. Only one of the rivets on wire #56-4 is still being contacted by the wipers. As the unit steps up further, wire #56-4 will be disconnected next.
Now you can see where wire c connects.
