BINGO PINBALLS

How They Work - Spin Cycle - Wiper/Cam Release

This part is easy, so if you're reaching for the drinks already, I'm forced to side with your SO...you're a lush.

Different games do this slightly differently, but all games (assuming they actually have the parts we are talking about) release the timer cams, the mixers, and the spotting wipers at the start of a spin cycle. Everything in the spin cycle is sequenced by the timing cams, so we'll start there.

Timer Cams Release

The purple circuit powers the timer cams index coil, which is the guy that releases the timer cams to rotate 180 degrees during the spin cycle. The search index 17B switch at the top prevents the machine from being cycled during payout.

CU cam switch 3 is what removes power from the start relay and other things that stay closed by themselves. It really doesn't have an impact on the timer cams circuit directly, as the timer cams index coil just does whatever the start relay is doing (we know that because the start relay switch is in the circuit lower down).

The coin switch is kindof a safety circuit. If someone is fishing a coin on a string and the coin switch doesn't return to it's home position, the timer cams never get released.

Finally, the shutter motor switch completes the purple circuit when the shutter panel is open. When the shutter is closed, switch 5A directs the 50V to the shutter motor.

Of course, a spin cycle occurs when playing for extra balls, so the E.B. start relay branch allows the timer cams to be released during extra ball play.

Mixer Latch

The mixer latch coil(s) (#16 on diagram) power, push down the mixer arms and release the mixer discs (not shown in diag) to turn. As shown in the green path in the schematic, the mixer latch coils power at the same time as the timer cams index coil. When the mixer latch coils lose power, the arms are free to shift up and lock the mixer wipers in place. When the mixers arms actual lock the wipers is discussed in the parts that wear section.

Spotting Index

The spotting index coil releases the spotting wipers. The circuit is so simple that I won't even show it. CU cam switch 4B powers the coil. When 4B is closed, the spotting wipers can turn. When 4B opens, the wipers stop.

While the spotting wipers are turning, lights flash behind the backglass and hopefully nothing else happens. The 50V going to the score/feature step-up units/trip relays had better be cut off, otherwise the game could go nuts and award practically everything as the spotting wipers make/break circuits as the spin around.

CU cam 4B is one of the timer cams (cam 4, which shouldn't be a big surprise). If you can remember that for a second and move on to the next section, the timing diagram will be available for your viewing pleasure.
